Diverticulosis is a condition in which small sacs (called diverticula) develop in the lining of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Most people who have diverticulosis do not have any symptoms and are unaware they have the condition. It’s often discovered during screening procedures for other conditions such as polyps.

Diverticulosis does not lead to cancer but can cause other complications such as inflammation, infection or bleeding.
